According to provisions relating to the organization and functioning of the Romanian Gendarmerie ( article 1, law 550/2004), the institution exerts the following attributions:
- it defends the public order and peace, the citizens`fundamental rights and freedom of speed, the public and private properties
- it prevents and detects crimes and other violations of the laws in force
- it protects the state fundamental institutions
- it fights terrorism actions
The Gendarmerie Inspectorate of Harghita County with its specialized structures fulfills the following missions:
- It defends with means and methods provided by law, the citizens`fredom and corporal integrity, the public and private property, the community, state and citizens legitimate interests
- it carries out missions of assuring the public order on occasions of meetings, marches, demonstrations, processions, picketing actions, promotional and comercial actions, cultural, artistic, sportive, religions and commemorative manifestations and of other such activities that are carried on in public space and imply people overcrowdings
- it carries out missions of restoring the public order when it`s troubled by any kind of actions or facts that contrevene any laws in force
- it carries out in cooperation with state institutions missions of ensuring the public order during official visits and other activities that involve Romanian or foreign high officials in areas of objectives and places where activities are carried on
- it carries out ,in conditions established by law and at competent authorities `request, missions of monitoring and catch of escaped and deserters and of other people who committed or intend to commit crimes or avoid preventive detention or carrying prison sentences
- it carries out missions of antiterrorist intervention at objectives found in the responsibility of the Gendarmerie or missions in order to capture and neutralize people who use weapons or other ways that endanger the security of people, values and special transports
- it ensures under the law the security or protection of objectives, goods and values of great importance wich are established by Government Decisions. It also protects objectives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs established by Order of Minister as it follows: 5 financiary and banking objectives, 5 instances with 10 courts, 5 prosecutor`s offices, 3 objectives belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs
- it provides under the law the protection or security of important values and weapons transportation , ammunition, explosive materials, drugs, toxic or radioactive substances or other dangerous substances or materials defined by law
- it participates in cooperation with other state institutions to missions that prevent and neutralize terrorist acts
- it participates with other state institutions to missions of monitoring, control and ensuring the protection and conservation of the natural responsible fisheries, forest and hunting, of the environment with specific measures in order to prevent and control any other violations of legal norms
- it secures the protection of classified correspondence during its transport on the whole
- it takes part to actions of limiting and removal of consequences of natural, technological, environmental or complex disasters
- it ensures measures of order and protection in areas where fires, explosions took place or when there`s an impending danger that such emergency situations may take place and put people` life, physical integrity or goods in danger
- it established infringements ans applies sanctions according to the law
- it performs necessary acts for taking criminal proceedings against crimes that are found during the performance of specific missions under aticle 214 Criminal Procedure Code
- it performs research and documentation activities in order to establish a data base of operational interest which is necessary for performing specific missions. Such a data base includes people having previous antecedents in committing acts of disorder during public manifestations or people known as belonging to groups of thugs but it also includes other information of operational interest which is necessary for performing missions
- it performs any other duties required by law
